5 Minute’s To Figure It Out

5 Minute’s To Figure It Out

By: Julie A. Eastin

When you first walk into Revolution Church you are greeted with a warm welcome and a smile. One of those wonderful people who make walking through the door worth it, took some time with ReVo to share a little bit about the 5 Minute Team.

ReVo: Can you explain what the 5 Minute Team is?

Kim: We are the team of people who greet you as you walk in the door. While we are there for everyone walking in the door, we specifically are watching for visitors. It is said that when people visit a new church their first and sometimes lasting impressions are made within the first five minutes of walking in the door! So, we want to be there to make a positive first impression; we greet, provide necessary information about the services, if they have children we take them over and introduce them to a Kidopolis worker, and we just talk to people and get to know them, allowing the joy we have in Christ to shine through us.

ReVo: What kind of impact does the 5 Minute Team make?

Kim: I think this question could probably be answered by the reader of this article. How did the 5 Minute Team greeting that you received when you started coming to Revolution effect you? Hopefully in some way you (the reader) felt like you were being welcomed into a friendly, Christ loving environment where you were accepted and included. I think that the 5 Minute Team has a very important ministry and potentially can make a huge impact! We have the chance to be where the rubber hits the road! We get the blessing of serving and ministering to everyone who walks through the doors of Revolution Church! How cool is that!!!

ReVo: What do you enjoy about the 5 Minute Team?

Kim: The people! You the church!! My most favorite part of the leading this ministry is the relationships I’ve been able to build. I love getting to see every single face as they walk through the door every week. I enjoy knowing that I didn’t miss getting to tell someone hi. I tell my team and anyone looking to join the ministry that one of the pros of being a part of the 5 Minute Team is that at the end of the night you are almost guaranteed not to be able to say, “Oh, I didn’t get to see so and so tonight.” But mostly I enjoy being the smile of Christ and letting his joy live through me to shine onto the lives of others.

ReVo: How would someone interested become involved?

Kim: Talk to me!!:) Seriously it’s that easy. We don’t have a lot of requirements for this ministry, and no matter what you think your skill level is, we have a spot for you! It’s as simple as opening a door and flashing a friendly smile to guiding someone to the bathroom or Kidopolis, or specifically greeting new visitors and find out why they came… in a non pressuring way of course. 🙂

ReVo: Is there anything else you would like to share?

Kim: A. Not so much about the team specifically, but a challenge to Revolution Church in general. One thing I like to challenge people with when they are first looking into being part of the ministry is to consider their fears in relation to people coming to visit the church for the first time. I’ll be the first to admit that before I was a part of this ministry I wouldn’t go up to visitors and talk to them. I was scared to death to talk to someone that I didn’t know. I would like to challenge you to consider your fears in relation to the visitor you are talking to. You are in a safe environment where you know everyone and have lots of friends, you know what to expect from the night. They however don’t know anyone, they have no idea what to expect and I guarantee that they are afraid of coming and talking to us. We must go to them and it’s not just the job of the 5 Minute Team to do so. It’s the responsibility of the church; everyone of us. It’s impossible for the 5 Minute Team to do this on our own, we need all of you helping to make everyone new to Revolution feel welcome. Read 25:34-40; wouldn’t you love to know, that if the opportunity presented itself, you were there willing and available to serve Christ?

Can You Tell Me How to Get to Kid-Opolis…Please?!

Can You Tell Me How to Get To Kid-Polis…Please?!

ReVo: What is Kid-Opolis and does it have a mission statement?

Cassie: It is Revolutions ministry specifically designed to teach, prepare and equip children. Actually, Kidopolis has a mission verse, Matthew 19:14 says, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  Here at Kidopolis we have built our 3 part goal from this verse, “To do everything we can to draw them in, to do our best to never hinder them in developing a relationship with Christ, and always lead them towards Jesus.”

,

ReVo: What should parents know about Kid-Opolis?

Cassie: Kidopolis is a place where kids can wiggle and giggle and be who God designed them to be.  We maintain standards we believe are purposeful in reaching and teaching kids, meeting emotional and physical needs while leading them in their spiritual growth and development at age appropriate levels. We believe it is vital to be intentional and consistent in all areas, especially in spiritual growth.  And I believe Kidopolis provides this atmosphere and support!

ReVo: Where have you  seen God work?

Cassie: There are so many places but my favorite transformations have taken place within the children, in 5 years I have watched them grow not only physically and emotionally but also spiritually.  It is so exciting to be a part of kids growing closer to Jesus and a part of the process of forming and growing spiritual champions.  The other exciting part is watching people get involved and challenging themselves in new ways, allowing them to be used by God for His glory!

ReVo: Can people interested in working with children become involved?

Cassie:  Absolutely!  There is a place for everyone!  If you have the desire, we have a place for you. Kidopolis positions range from rocking babies, greeting parents, teaching kids 3yrs old – 6th grade, assisting teachers, creating videos, decorating and prep work, inventory specialists, and so much more, all you need is the desire and to come talk with me. The great thing about Kidopolis is that as our team continues to grow, God always sends more kids for us to serve so there is never a shortage of positions for people that want to be a part of the ministry.

ReVo: What are your hopes for Kid-Opolis in the future?

Cassie:  I would like to see Kidopolis produce spiritual champions!  I envision kids that are equipped, knowledgeable, and that have a solid, unwavering foundation in Christ.  I see a fun, imaginative atmosphere, teeming with energy and technology.   I see a place that is designed specifically with the intention of reaching kids for Christ on their terms. I see a winning team of people who partner in the goal to raise the children of Revolution Church in God and provide the best possible ministry ever to bring more glory to our Heavenly Father.  Kidopolis rocks now and I see it getting even better!

Send Us Out!

This month’s theme on Revo Mag is all about missions! So what goes better with the main dish “missions”? Well, it’s not a side of vegies or tators…it’s mission trips! Meadow Piepho gets to tell us “all about it” in this interview concerning the trip for 2010.

Send Us Out!

Revo: How do you decide where to go for the mission trips?

Meadow:
It seems that trips sort of fall into place without much of a decision from me! It’s probably a combination of where I have global contacts and where there is a need, covered with lots of prayer. In the past, Revolution has gone to Honduras, London, and the Navajo reservation.

Revo: What are some of the activities you do while you’re on mission?

Meadow:
In Honduras we did a lot of children’s ministry, door-to-door visiting, light construction, litter pick-up, and working in the mission school. In London, the team also did children’s ministry and focused on evangelism to Muslims.

Revo: Do you have a goal in mind when you plan a mission trip? If so, what is it?

Meadow:
It seems that I usually have more than one goal in mind! The overarching goal is always to win the hearts and minds of everyone we meet for Jesus. I also hope that the short-term trips we take will result in people becoming more involved in missions and possibly becoming long-term missionaries across the globe!

Revo: Not very many people can afford to go on a mission trip, what then?

Meadow:
Fundraising is always a great option! It allows other people to become a part of your trip. Many people don’t feel called to go on a mission trip, but they feel called to help others go. They are the senders and you bless them by letting them “send!”

Revo: Can you tell us about a time that has been exceptionally memorable for you during a trip?

Meadow:
Probably the most memorable was the trip we took in 2008 to Honduras. We brought Cash Hollistah with us and he did a concert on the island. It was such a special time where we drew in crowds that wouldn’t set foot in a church and we were able to share the gospel with them.

Revo: Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in going but not quite sure if they should or not?

Meadow:
Pray. Don’t go if you think it’ll be a “vacation with a purpose.” Pray. Go because you feel an irrational call to get out of your comfort zone and bring the love of Christ to another people group. Did I mention they need to pray?

Revo: How does one interested in going on a mission trip get involved?

Meadow:
Talk to me! I try to organize one trip a year and encourage anyone interested to come along. There are also many other organizations that lead mission trips and I could help you get connected with those as well.

Revo: Do you have any plans for a trip in 2010?

Meadow: Yes, I do! I am planning a trip to work with missionaries who are church-planting among the Navajo in New Mexico. We’ll hopefully also get to serve some at the Navajo Mission. This will be a less expensive trip than in the past, and would be a perfect one for parents to bring children along! I am planning this trip for the beginning of August; specific dates and details to come!
